Strategic Foresight Board

The Strategic Foresight Board (SFB) will provide insights on the current developments and future trends, key drivers and barriers to the Circular Economy (CE), provide strategic guidance to the leadership of Circular Economy Alliance (CEA), and develop and enhance strategic partnerships with the international business, academic and policy community. Overall, it will support CEA in achieving its mission of promoting research-driven skills development for all and vision of advancing a just and inclusive transition to the Circular Economy.

Dr. Mark Esposito
Chairman

Dr. Mark Esposito is recognized internationally as a top global thought leader in matters relating to The Fourth Industrial Revolution, the changes and opportunities that technology will bring to a variety of industries. He is Co-Founder and Chief Learning Officer at Nexus FrontierTech, an AI scale up firm, dedicated to help business become more efficient and competitive by introducing the latest data management science. He was inducted in 2016 in the radar of Thinkers50 as one of the 30 most prominent rising business thinkers in the world. He is a global expert of the World Economic Forum and advisor to national governments. Since 2011, Dr. Esposito has been a Professor with Harvard Professional Development Programs where he teaches in highly rated programs such as Artificial Intelligence in Business: Creating Value in Machine Learning and Growth Strategies: Identifying Opportunities in Market Trends.

Amy L. Ryan
Vice Chairwoman

Amy Ryan is a pioneer in the dynamic field of environmental risk, social cause, and regulatory governance, including ESG. Her nearly 20-year career includes her holding management roles within Corporate Risk Mitigation, Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance. An adept communicator, Amy has become a trusted advisor for Leaders within Industrial Manufacturing, Government (including local), and Community-based organizations facilitating the creation of comprehensive solutions through her unique blend of expertise and empathy to facilitate constructive solutions with highly diverse stakeholders. Amy is currently Co-Founder and CEO of ESG Strategies, a boutique consultancy supporting Clients discover and mitigate ESG operational risk through circular economy concepts and multi-dimensional partnerships. Amy is an Independent Director for Oil Dri Corporation (NASDAQ ODC) Board of Directors and sits on the Boards Nominations Committee. Amy has a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Atmospheric Science from the University at Albany (SUNY) and a Master’s Degree from Harvard University in Business Management.

Dr. Walter Stahel

Dr. Walter Stahel is an architect by training (ETH Zürich), a researcher and industrial analyst by experience; 28 years head of risk management research for the world insurance industry, author and keynote speaker by necessity; Visiting Professor, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, University of Surrey and Full member of the Club of Rome by invitation. Member of several Scientific Advisory Boards, Senior Research Fellow at Circular Economy Research Center at École Ponts Business School and Founder-Director of The Product-Life Institute, Geneva. Manuel Maqueda
Member

Manuel Maqueda teaches Applied Circular Economics at Harvard Extension School. Previously, he created an applied, multidisciplinary Circular Economy Online Course at the University of California, Berkeley Extension, where he taught Impact Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Manuel Maqueda has founded  a number of notable, mission-driven organizations, such as SUPER®, enabling businesses to eliminate single-use plastics through a tiered certification program.  As a forward-thinker, Manuel has consulted for notable futurist organizations, such as the Jeff-Bezos-funded Long Now Foundation, dedicated to fostering long-term thinking in the context of the next 10,000 years. He is also the author of the forthcoming book The Meaning Economy, about how meaning is transforming the economy, and our future.

Dr. Terence Tse
Member

Dr. Terence Tse  has a PhD from University of Cambridge, UK. He started off his career in investment banking and consulting. He is an educator, speaker, and advisor. Tse is a co-founder and Executive Director of Nexus FrontierTech, an AI scale up. In parallel, he is also a professor at Hult International Business School and regularly provides commentaries on the financial market in the Financial Times, The Economist, the World Economic Forum.

Dr. Alessandro Lanteri
Member

Dr. Alessandro Lanteri is Professor at ESCP Business School, he also teaches executive programs for Saïd Business School at University of Oxford and London Business School. An expert educator, he helps multinationals and governments across five continents navigate and seize the opportunities of turbulent environments. “Clever” is his latest bestseller. His next book, “Innovating with Impact,” will be published in 2023 by The Economist.

Tze Ni Yeoh
Member

Tze Ni Yeoh is an economist turned circular economy specialist with experience in the consumer goods industry and international development. Her work focuses on developing solutions to combat plastic waste, particularly in developing country contexts. As a Circular Packaging Advisor at Danone, Tze is responsible for sourcing, evaluating and monitoring projects and partnerships that contribute to Danone brands’ sustainability and circularity targets. Moreover, she is a consultant at the World Bank, providing Advisory on projects related to circular economy, private sector competitiveness, and plastic value chain analysis. Futhermore, back in 2019, Tze founded the first Circular Economy Symposium at Harvard. Outside of work, she is a passionate advocate of the zero-waste lifestyle and volunteers as speaker and content creator for Zero Waste Malaysia. Tze is keen to drive change in fast-paced, results-oriented organizations that are committed to a climate competitive agenda.

Henrik Homann
Member

Henrik Homann served as member of the Group Executive Board of TUI until 2018. Prior to this Henrik acted as CFO of TUI’s business unit Central Region. Before entering TUI in 1995 Henrik was Head of Business Planing for Airbus in Germany, where he started his career in 1988. Since 1999 up to now Henrik has been running his Family’s Office doing venture financing, private equity and M&A advisory. He’s graduated from European Business School.

Dr. Juergen Schroeder
Member

Dr. Juergen Schroeder has a PhD in economics from Ruhr university Bochum. He is a Senior Partner Emeritus at McKinsey & Company, Inc. – for more than two decades he has been looking after global corporations in the travel, transport and logistics sector, especially in transformation programs with a focus on marketing and sales. In addition, he provides consulting services on digital transformation and education. As a member of the IACD, he contributes his local network and the role of “challenger of business cases”. Dr. Jurgen is an investor and advisor for several start-ups focused on sustainability and circular economy.

Terry W. Himes
Member

Terry Himes is a JPL Spacecraft and Software Engineer. He has his BS degree in Computer Science from Michigan State University with a Minors in Business and Systems Analysis. He worked on his MS degree at Temple University until an opportunity to start up his own software company in 1979, now called Princeton Networks Corporation.  He began working on Deep Space missions in 1990 on JPL’s Mars Observer spacecraft and played major roles in the successful development of the Mars InSight Lander, Mars Phoenix Lander, Deep Impact/Epoxi. Terry has worked over 30 deep space missions since.

Catherine Weetman
Member

Catherine Weetman is an international speaker, workshop facilitator, coach, consultant and host of the Circular Economy Podcast. She founded Rethink Global to help businesses, social enterprises and community groups to use circular economy approaches to build a better world. Catherine’s award-winning book,A Circular Economy Handbook: How to Build a More Resilient, Competitive and Sustainable Business, explains the what, why and how of the circular economy. The new edition (2020) includes a new chapter on packaging, over 100 extra examples, and many more updates.

Anne Babalola
Member

Anne Babalola is a UK trained lawyer, investment and policy advisor and consultant. She is a graduate of  law from University College London, public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and business administration from London Business School. She has years of experience advising corporate, public and state entities in Europe and Africa on private sector competitiveness, investment policy and arbitration and  regulatory governance including ESG. She also has extensive experience running and advising on family office operations, strategy, investments and private equity.

Phanos Theophanous
Member

Phanos joined Barclays as a Managing Director in 2011, from Deloitte. He joined Deloitte straight after completing a MSc in Mathematics at the University of York and rose to Partner within 8 years. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, a Chartered Wealth Manager and holds a MBA from The University of Chicago – Booth School of Business.
